Kweon Seong-dong, the leader of the ruling People Power Party, said on the 16th regarding the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol, "Our party's official stance is that we will accept the court's judgment results."
On this day, the leader held a press conference at the National Assembly and responded to the question, "Is accepting the conclusion of the impeachment trial the correct official stance of the party?" with this remark.
The leader said, "As you all know, the constitutional trial is final," and stated, "Once a ruling is made, the result is attributed to everyone," adding, "I have already publicly expressed my intention to accept the impeachment trial results, and Kweon Young-se, the chairperson of the nonpartisan committee, also stated his intention to accept the Constitutional Court's results at a press conference on the 13th."
Regarding whether Yoon should also issue a message of acceptance, the leader commented, "I understand that President Yoon expressed such intention during the final argument last time."
He then urged the Democratic Party to publicly declare acceptance. The leader noted, "Representative Lee Jae-myung casually mentioned on YouTube, 'What will happen if you do not accept the decision according to the constitutional order?' (When media reports suggested the possibility of dismissal during the impeachment trial of former President Park Geun-hye, he publicly expressed his disagreement.) Therefore, I am not sure whether Representative Lee's words reflect true acceptance."
He added, "I think that the failure of Representative Lee to publicly and clearly convey a message of acceptance regarding the Constitutional Court's decision is ultimately an attempt to intimidate the court."
He also expressed agreement with some demands for the leadership of both parties to jointly issue a message of acceptance. The leader said, "Since we have already expressed our intention to accept, whether it be a press conference between party leaders or a joint message as the Democratic Party desires, we will deliver a message of acceptance in any form."
