Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon visited the Christian community on the 16th and said, "It is when we unite and heal."
On the same day, after worshiping at Yoido Full Gospel Church in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, former leader Han said this during a meeting with Pastor Lee Young-hoon. This was in response to Pastor Lee's appeal that, "Former leader Han should take the lead in achieving national unity," and that, "If we divide, the country will collapse."
Regarding the demand from both within and outside the party that President Yoon Suk-yeol needs to clearly deliver a message of acceptance of the Constitutional Court's impeachment ruling, Han emphasized, "Acceptance is not an option." After worship, he told reporters, "I believe the Constitutional Court will make a decision consistent with the constitution and its spirit," and added, "The Republic of Korea has very painstakingly established the system of liberal democracy for a long time. Acceptance is, of course, necessary."
Concerning the heated discussions on constitutional amendments, he reiterated that a promise regarding 'term shortening' must be a prerequisite. Former leader Han stated, "It is important to align the terms of members of the National Assembly and the president. That promise ultimately increases the feasibility of constitutional amendments," and added, "Constitutional amendments are a matter of feasibility. The public will think, 'This will likely just pass in the political realm now.'" He continued, "If we do not properly amend the constitution now, we will face similar issues again. We need to stop that. Such determination is necessary at this time."
Former leader Han, who resumed political activities this month, continues his public engagements. After a book concert held in Busan on the 10th, he attended a worship service at Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul today, six days later.
Regarding the purpose of visiting Yoido Full Gospel Church, former leader Han explained, "I have respected Pastor Lee Young-hoon (the senior pastor of Yoido Full Gospel Church) for a long time," and said, "After hearing from Pastor Lee that this is a time for unity and healing, I will try to do good politics with that mindset."
Former leader Han is scheduled to meet with the head of the Jogye Order on the 17th, continuing his series of meetings with the religious community.
