Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, noted on the 14th that the impeachment proceedings initiated by the opposition party, including the Democratic Party, against senior officials were concurrent, stating, "It has been revealed that it was a hasty impeachment," shifting the blame onto the Democratic Party. He called for a public apology from Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, as well as the withdrawal of the impeachment motions against Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Minister of Justice Park Sung-jae, and the restoration of the budget that was unilaterally cut for the Board of Audit and Inspection and the prosecution.
During a meeting of the floor strategy committee held that day at the National Assembly, Kweon Seong-dong stated, "Yesterday, the impeachment complaints against the chairperson of the Board of Audit and Inspection and three prosecutors were unanimously dismissed by the Constitutional Court," and added, "It has clearly emerged that all 29 impeachment motions that were baselessly issued solely for the purpose of long-term suspension of duties are acts of revenge impeachment that undermine state governance and hasty impeachment meant to shield Lee Jae-myung."
He continued, "The Lee Jae-myung faction has committed crimes including falsely accusing innocent people and attempting to impose sanctions through concurrent impeachment, abusing legislative power for personal revenge by suspending duties, and creating invalid impeachment documents." He asserted, "Such criminal elements should now be politically impeached by the people."
He urged Lee to "publicly repent before the people for the Democratic Party's legislative overreach, including the rampant and strategic misuse of impeachment."
He also stated, "Considering that the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Minister of Justice Park Sung-jae is likely to be dismissed, they should retract the impeachment motions to stabilize national chaos."
Kweon Seong-dong emphasized the growing demands for a comprehensive response to the tariff war originating from the United States, mentioning that there is a lack of a diplomatic control tower, saying, "The impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo should be handled swiftly." He pointed out, "Prime Minister Han is a trade expert who previously served as the ambassador to the United States. Not having him fulfill his role during such difficult times is a national misfortune."
He also urged for the restoration of the audit agency's budget of 6 billion won and the prosecution's budget of 58.7 billion won, which were cut by the opposition party last year. Kweon Seong-dong remarked, "Do you know how the employees of the Board of Audit and Inspection are catching corruption and crime? It's 'I pay my money, I conduct the audit and investigation.' It is a reality where I'm using my own money to audit and investigate." He added, "One of the tasks that the prosecution must handle is apprehending individuals with suspended prison sentences who are still at large, and the number of such apprehensions decreased by a staggering 30% compared to the previous year in January. This is due to the Lee Jae-myung faction's subjective budget cuts, allowing criminals who should be sent to prison, such as drug offenders, to roam freely on the streets."
He continued, "In January, the recovery of criminal profits decreased by 40% compared to the previous year. The performance of blocking illegal gambling sites also significantly dropped. All of this is the result of the budget cuts carried out by the Lee Jae-myung faction," and stated, "Restoration of the core budgets of the Board of Audit and Inspection and the prosecution is the first step in people's politics to protect citizens from corruption and crime. I expect a response from Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung that reflects his introspection."
