Park Dong-hyuk, a member of the National Assembly's Judiciary Committee belonging to the People Power Party, on the 13th targeted Cheon Dae-yeob, the Minister of the Court Administration, stating that it was very disappointing and regrettable to judge the previous day that 'the higher court needs to assess the court's (President Yoon Seok-yeol) decision to cancel the arrest.'
On the same day, the lawmaker held a press conference at the National Assembly and made this statement.
He criticized that 'this (the Minister's remarks) urges the prosecution to make an unconstitutional immediate appeal, which is not a statement that should be made by a Minister of the Court Administration responsible for the operations of the court, the last bastion of human rights.' He pointed out, 'The unconstitutionality of the immediate appeal has nothing to do with whether to release the defendant and make an immediate appeal, or to not release and make the appeal.'
The lawmaker stated, 'The prosecution has already stated that it would give up the immediate appeal, and based on this, released President Yoon,' adding, 'If it reverses its position under the Democratic Party's intimidation and makes an immediate appeal, it not only seriously undermines the procedural stability of the defendant but also brings a historically shameful stigma.'
The previous day, Minister Cheon attended the National Assembly's Judiciary Committee meeting and mentioned regarding the cancellation of President Yoon Seok-yeol's arrest, 'The prosecution needs to make an immediate appeal to receive the judgment of the higher court.' He also noted, 'There is still time left for the appeal period until Friday,' and added, 'Since President Yoon is not currently under arrest, there is no special hindrance for the appellate court to make a legal judgment.'
