On the 6th, pilots involved in the fighter jet misfire incident in the Pocheon area were criminally charged on the 13th.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, the Defense Investigation Headquarters has criminally charged two KF-16 fighter jet pilots with professional negligence.
The investigation headquarters said, "Through the investigation so far, we have confirmed that the pilots' incorrect entry of target coordinates was a direct cause of the incident," and noted, "We will continue to clarify the direct and indirect causes of this misfire incident."
The two pilots, on the 6th, were training by flying one KF-16 fighter jet each and firing four MK-82 bombs when they accidentally entered the wrong target coordinates, leading to bombing on civilian areas. This incident resulted in 38 injuries and 166 cases of property damage.
The air force previously relieved the commanders of the units to which the pilots belonged from their positions on the 11th. The reason was severe neglect of duty and inadequate command management and supervision.
The air force plans to conduct a qualifications review for the two pilots involved in the misfire incident next week.
