Won Hee-ryong, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, strongly criticized Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, on the 12th, calling him "a master of judicial manipulation and trial delays."
The former Minister said through Facebook that afternoon, "Terrified Lee is once again applying for a constitutional review," and added, "he has no conscience or shame."
The former Minister pointed out, "After paralyzing South Korea with 29 impeachment motions, he is acting this way because he doesn't want to go," noting, "It's the same method as the defendants in the Changwon spy ring case who delayed trials with all kinds of tricks."
He stated, "There are forces that do not hesitate to threaten to impeach Acting President Choi Sang-mok and Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung," and urged, "Citizens, you must stay alert."
Meanwhile, as the verdict date for Lee's appeal on election law violation charges is set for the 26th, he submitted a request for a constitutional review to the Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 6-2, which is currently overseeing his trial for election law violations. Previously, on the 4th of last month, he had also filed for a constitutional review concerning Article 250, Clause 1 of the Public Official Election Act, which stipulates punishment for the dissemination of false information for election purposes.
If the court refers the constitutional review to the Constitutional Court, the trial will be suspended until a decision is rendered by the court. Earlier, the first trial court sentenced Lee to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence for election law violations in November last year.
