People Power Party said on the 11th, "National stability is a priority," deciding to maintain the current focus on people's livelihood and policy. Amid rising voices within the party calling for a full-scale effort to dismiss President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment following the court's cancellation of the arrest, the party decided not to pressure the Constitutional Court through protests outside the assembly. Regarding some party members commencing individual protests in front of the Constitutional Court, it stated, "It is a matter for each to decide."
On this day, the People Power Party held a general meeting at the National Assembly and spent about an hour gathering opinions on future responses to the impeachment ruling of President Yoon. Previously, within the party, there had been calls mainly from the pro-Yoon faction for protests outside and sit-ins urging the 'dismissal of the impeachment', prompting the party leadership to convene the meeting to hear opinions.
However, the leadership decided to maintain the current focus on people's livelihood and policy.
Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader, spoke with reporters after the general meeting, noting, "There were various opinions on how to respond to the Democratic Party's complete disregard for the National Assembly's main duties regarding people's livelihood and the economy, focusing only on political struggle," adding, "The leadership reached a conclusion to maintain the current stance, and the members agreed to it."
It seems the ruling party judged that confusion could escalate if it also engaged in protests outside of the assembly. In his remarks at the general meeting, Kweon emphasized the need for calm and orderly responses to social chaos caused by the internal conflict-oriented forces led by Lee Jae-myung, stating the importance of stability.
Kweon explained, "Until now, our party has expressed its position through meetings only when there were particularly pressing issues," and stated that, "Like the Democratic Party, we have decided not to engage in actions that pressure the Constitutional Court through protests outside or hunger strikes."
However, separate from this party stance, some party members will begin individual protests urging the dismissal of the impeachment from this day forward.
Starting at 2 p.m. on this day, People Power Party members including Yoon Sang-hyun, Park Dae-cheul, Jang Dong-hyuk, Park Sung-min, Kim Seon-kyo, Lee Heon-seung, and Kang Seung-kyu will begin a relay protest in front of the Constitutional Court, calling for the dismissal of President Yoon's impeachment, and will take turns daily until the impeachment ruling is announced.
Yoon stated to reporters during the general meeting, "A ruling on impeachment with flaws cannot hold legitimacy. The adoption cannot possess legitimacy from the start and should be dismissed. We need to inform the Constitutional Court of our thoughts," explaining the background of the individual protests.
He also stated, "At this point, a resolution for the total resignation of National Assembly members should be made," asserting a call for the dissolution of the National Assembly. To this, Kweon replied, "It is a matter that many should consider more deeply," and refrained from expressing further. Regarding the individual protests by the lawmakers, he stated, "Engaging in protests outside or on-site demonstrations is a matter of the lawmakers' own judgment and conscience," adding, "The leadership does not have the authority to dictate this or provide guidelines, as it is a matter for each to decide."
