President Yoon Suk-yeol met with Kwon Young-se, the chairperson of the emergency response committee of the People Power Party, and Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader, on the 9th and asked them to "lead the party well" going forward, according to reports on the 10th.

On Nov. 8, Kwon Young-se, the chair of the emergency measures committee of the People Power Party, and Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader, along with lawmakers, hold an emergency general meeting in front of the Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office, urging the release of President Yoon Suk-yeol. /Courtesy of Yonhap News.

According to the People Power Party, President Yoon met with Chairperson Kwon and Floor Leader Kweon from 8 p.m. for about 30 minutes the day before at the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, where they exchanged greetings.

During the meeting, President Yoon said, "I hope you lead our party well going forward," as reported by Chairperson Kwon during a meeting with reporters at the National Assembly that day.

Chairperson Kwon added, "I didn’t talk for long but asked about health. I also shared words of encouragement for the future and discussed various personal feelings during my time in detention."

Concerns have been raised within the party that the leadership has not been able to clearly delineate from President Yoon, which could solidify the image of being a "martial law-supporting party." In response, Chairperson Kwon stated, "It is natural for the party leadership to express support for the president. I do not agree with interpreting that as delineating or not delineating; it is incorrect."

Additionally, the Democratic Party has initiated emergency actions such as late-night demonstrations and rallies in response to opposition to President Yoon's release, and expressed intentions to consider counter-rallies.

This meeting is reported to have been arranged after President Yoon spoke with Floor Leader Kweon on the day of his release, the 8th.

Shin Dong-wook, the chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, noted, "In the initial conversation on the day of release, it seemed that it was a mutual expression of wanting to "visit" each other. Since he had been in detention for a long time, the party leadership probably felt it was their duty to confirm his health and visit him," adding, "It wasn’t a serious conversation."
