The Democratic Party of Korea has decided to file a criminal complaint against prosecutor general Sim Woo-jeong for abusing her authority regarding the prosecution's failure to immediately appeal the cancellation of President Yoon Suk-yeol's arrest. They warned that if she refuses to resign immediately, they might pursue impeachment.
Democratic Party floor leader Park Chan-dae stated on the 9th after an emergency assembly at the National Assembly, "The Democratic Party will immediately file a complaint against Prosecutor General Sim," adding, "Sim must resign immediately, and if she refuses, we will take all necessary measures including impeachment."
Park noted, "The greatest responsibility for this situation lies with Prosecutor General Sim," and said, "Sim has voluntarily given up the opportunity to appeal the court's judgment and released Yoon Suk-yeol, who is accused of insurrection." He emphasized, "That by itself is a matter for which she should resign."
The Democratic Party plans to file a complaint against Sim for abuse of authority with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on the 10th. They found it particularly problematic that Sim directly instructed the release despite the special investigation team dedicated to investigating President Yoon's insurrection allegations expressing the need for an immediate appeal.
Democratic Party spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong stated, "The immediate appeal against the cancellation of the arrest was not a political decision, but simply something the prosecution should have done," adding, "By failing to make an immediate appeal, this is an abandonment of duty, and in infringing upon that authority, it admits to abusing authority."
She continued, "We demand the immediate resignation of Sim," and noted, "If she does not resign immediately, we will take various measures, including impeachment."
