Calls for dismissal of the impeachment trial within the ruling party are growing, as well as demands to cancel the charges themselves.
Kwon Young-se, the People Power Party's emergency response committee chairman, said, "I welcome this decision, though late, as a very good one," adding, "Considering the defendant president's right to defense, he should never have been arrested in the first place." He met with reporters at the National Assembly that day and stated, "I greatly welcome the cancellation of the arrest now," expressing hopes that the prosecution will have no objections.
Song Eon-seok, chairman of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee and a People Power Party member, issued a statement, saying, "The court's decision will be the first step in restoring judicial justice and trust," and pointed out the procedural flaws and illegality of the unlawful investigation by the CIO. He also remarked, "Starting with the cancellation of the arrest, the unjust impeachment carried out through political machinations, including by former commander Kwak Jong-geun, must also be promptly dismissed."
Representative Yoon Sang-hyun, who had been protesting for the 'release of the president,' posted on Facebook, stating, "The release of President Yoon is true judicial justice," adding, "What remains is the rejection of the impeachment trial request." There have been legal controversies from the decision on the impeachment bill at the National Assembly plenary session up to the Constitutional Court's trial, indicating that it must be dismissed, rather than accepted or rejected.
Representative Yoon stated, "The release is the natural outcome and marks the first step for an unfair society to move towards fairness," adding, "What remains is a thorough investigation of the CIO's unlawful investigation and the entire arrest process inflicted upon President Yoon and to establish the truth." He also noted, "Contamination of key evidence and testimony regarding the charge of insurrection against the president has been confirmed," urging that the Constitutional Court must dismiss the key impeachment request.
Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate, expressed, "I am extremely grateful to the court for upholding my persistent call to cancel President Yoon's arrest," and stated, "The CIO chief, the prosecutor general, and the head of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office should take responsibility for the unlawful investigation and resign immediately." He further urged, "The prosecution should cancel the indictment immediately, as all investigation documents produced by the CIO, which lacks the investigative authority for insurrection, are null and void."
