The leadership of the People Power Party visited the TK (Daegu and North Gyeongsang) region on the 5th to rally its core support.
Kwon Young-se, chairman of the People Power Party's Emergency Response Committee, attended a training session for basic councilors in the Yeongnam region at a hotel in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, and criticized Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, who is continuing his 'rightward shift', saying, 'He is masquerading as a conservative while revealing the true nature of anti-market and anti-business totalitarianism.'
Chairman Kwon noted, 'The entire Democratic Party is denying and threatening the constitutional order to cover Lee Jae-myung's personal judicial risk, and they are only interested in impeachment, special investigations, and boycotts, showing no concern for competition for people's livelihoods.'
He added, 'Despite the pressing issues for people's livelihoods and the tsunami from Trump, the Democratic Party is even boycotting the government council with the ruling and opposition parties because acting Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok is not appointing Constitutional Court nominee Ma Eun-hyuk.'
Chairman Kwon emphasized, 'In a situation where the difficulties in the people's economy are intensifying and a political crisis is overlapping, we find ourselves in the middle of a perfect storm, and as the ruling party responsible for the national government, we have to fulfill our responsibilities to the people in any situation.'
Kim Sang-hoon, chairman of the policy committee, also joined in the criticism.
Chairman Kim said, 'Strangely, our conservative government always faces impeachment during the president's term. Those friends can run the country into chaos but still complete their term.'
He went on, 'If the next presidential election is held and we lose, can’t you picture what kind of country South Korea will become? It will turn into a union paradise. The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions will manipulate the Democratic Party, and the Democratic Party will control South Korea.'
In particular, he mentioned the financial regulations blocked by the Democratic Party, saying, 'Even now the national debt is huge, but the Democratic Party will spend regardless of how the national finances are.' He further stated, 'If a conservative government saves money in a piggy bank, the Democratic Party will break the bank and spend it extravagantly.'
He also stated, 'Our People Power Party is a party that worries about the future of South Korea and its younger generation, while the leftists are a party that worries about their own future. I hope that you will stand at the forefront and add strength in the emergency situation that may arise this time.'
Additionally, Chairman Kwon mentioned after the training session that he would take the lead in ensuring the successful hosting of APEC at the end of October in Gyeongju.
He said, 'Since an agreement has been reached to form a special committee for APEC between the ruling and opposition parties, we plan to actively assist from the budget onward for the necessary parts concerning Gyeongju City and North Gyeongsang Province.' He continued, 'In the past, APEC was held in major cities like Seoul and Busan. While it is meaningful to showcase the image of big cities, hosting it in historic Gyeongju will be a very important opportunity to introduce South Korea to the world.'
In response to the outlook that the Constitutional Court may delay the ruling on the impeachment trial of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo after accepting the National Assembly's request for materials, he stated, 'I am also a legal expert, but I cannot understand this,' urging, 'To fill the leadership vacuum as much as possible, the ruling on Prime Minister Han's trial should be resolved quickly.'
