Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized that the acting President Han Duck-soo is in a state of job suspension due to the opposition's 'hasty impeachment' at a time when a global tariff war requires a full-scale response, and urged the impeachment proceedings against Han and others to be dismissed promptly on the 5th.
On the morning of that day, the floor leader stated via his Facebook, "The Constitutional Court should prioritize the national interest of South Korea and promptly dismiss the impeachment of acting President Han and Audit Board Chairperson Choi Jae-hae."
He pointed out, "The world is currently in a tariff war without gunshots," and added, "As acting Prime Minister, Han should lead the full-scale response to the tariff war, while Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok should do the same. However, Han has now been in a state of job suspension for 68 days as of today."
He also criticized that the impeachment proceedings against Audit Board Chairperson Choi Jae-hae were conducted hastily. The floor leader stated, "On 12th of February, 69 days after Chairperson Choi was suspended from duty, the first and last impeachment hearing took place. It ended after just a 3-hour hearing. Moreover, an entire 21 days have passed since then," and continued, "This means the Audit Board Chairperson has been in a state of job suspension for 90 days due to a hasty impeachment that ended after just one, 3-hour hearing."
He criticized the Democratic Party for leading a state paralysis through hasty impeachment, stating, "Among the 29 serial impeachments by the Lee Jae-myung faction, the most barbaric and violent strategic impeachment was the one against acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Chairperson Choi Jae-hae. Hence, the impeachments of the Prime Minister and the Audit Board Chairperson concluded with just a single hearing," and added, "There was no evidence, no issues, and it was the worst possible hasty impeachment that could be dismissed immediately without a word."
He urged the Constitutional Court to hasten the impeachment ruling, stating, "It has been 3 weeks since the final arguments of Audit Board Chairperson Choi and 2 weeks since those of acting Prime Minister Han concluded. The deliberations must have finished by now. So why can't they reach a ruling? What are they waiting for? Is the Constitutional Court engaging in politics?" He expressed, "The swift dismissal of the impeachment of the Prime Minister and Audit Board Chairperson would be a patriotic act that the Constitutional Court could implement immediately today."
Meanwhile, Kweon Seong-dong and the leadership of the People Power Party plan to visit the POSCO Pohang Steelworks that day to hold a field meeting and listen to the difficulties faced by the domestic steel industry due to increased uncertainty in trade and falling prices of steel products.
