The ruling and opposition party floor leaders will meet at a 2+2 (floor leaders and chief deputy floor leaders) gathering chaired by the National Assembly Speaker in the afternoon of the 4th to discuss current issues, including the scheduling of the second national policy council.
The National Assembly Speaker's office announced on the morning of that day that at 3:30 p.m., National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik will meet with the People Power Party's Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the Democratic Party Park Chan-dae, and the People Power Party's Park Hyung-soo, the chief deputy floor leader, along with the Democratic Party's Park Seong-jun, the chief deputy floor leader.
It is known that this meeting was driven by Speaker Woo's strong intention to hold the national policy council. Woo also canceled his participation in the 'constitutional amendment debate' hosted by the National Strategy Institute of Seoul National University, which he was initially scheduled to attend that afternoon.
The point of interest in this meeting is whether the second national policy council between the ruling and opposition parties will be held.
Earlier, the second national policy council was scheduled to be held on the 28th of last month; however, it fell through when the Democratic Party notified that they would not participate.
Park Chan-dae, who was expected to attend the council as the opposition representative, stated that he would not participate after the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the appointment dispute over the appointment of Constitutional Court Justice Ma Eun-hyeok was announced, as Acting President Choi Sang-mok, who is also the Minister of Strategy and Finance, did not appoint Ma.
If the ruling and opposition parties agree on holding the second council that day, discussions are expected to include the supplementary budget deliberations agreed upon in the first council, pension reform, and key issues such as the introduction of an exception to the 52-hour work week for high-income workers under the special semiconductor law.
