The government will invest 247.5 billion won in budget for standardization in advanced industries and support policies for responding to overseas certification this year. This is an increase of about 10% compared to the previous year. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 27th, the National Standards Council has examined and approved the '2025 National Standard Implementation Plan,' which was prepared by 18 ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

This year, the plan is to focus on technological standardization to secure new markets in advanced industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and 6G. Support will also be provided to alleviate the burden of certification acquisition for our exporting corporations by operating a support team for overseas certification.

Plans are to continuously establish convenience and safety standards, foster specialized personnel for standardization in corporations, and strengthen the linkage between research and development and standards to enhance the commercial viability of research and development outcomes.

As a result of checking the implementation of the 5th National Basic Standards Plan (2021–2025), the government found that the final goals for performance indicators such as international standard proposals and the development of service standards were achieved ahead of schedule last year. This is analyzed as a result of efforts by Choi Sung-hwan, president of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), as well as private international standard experts and various ministries to develop international standards in order to seize the global market.

The government also formed a 'cross-ministerial private-public joint task force' to establish the '6th National Basic Standards Plan (2026–2030),' which includes the direction of national standardization policies for the next five years.

Oh Kwang-hae, director of the Standards Policy Bureau of the National Institute of Technological Standard, said, 'I will strengthen cooperation between ministries to ensure that the implementation plans for each department in 2025 proceed without a hitch,' and noted, 'Since this is an important time to establish the 6th basic plan, we will make every effort to prepare a long-term national standard strategy that can respond to changes across the economy, industry, and society.'
