The Democratic Party of Korea claimed that Kim Keon-hee, spouse of President Yoon Suk-yeol, had allegedly intervened in the 2022 local elections for the Gyeongnam governor's race and released a transcript of a recording from political broker Myung Tae-kyun on the 27th.
According to the transcript made public by the Democratic Party's Publicity Department that day, Myung mentioned during a conversation with an acquaintance on March 8, 2022, the background that Representative Yoon Han-hong of the People Power Party decided to give up on running for Gyeongnam governor, introducing Kim's message.
Myung recounted to his acquaintance the contents of a call he heard between Kim and Representative Yoon, saying that Yoon told Kim, "I have no intention of running for governor at all. I have no thoughts or ambitions. Just being beside you is my happiness."
Myung continued, "Do you know what Kim said to me? She said, 'Representative Yoon is not an ambitious person,' and added, 'Yoon Han-hong listens the best and has no ambitions.'
The Democratic Party noted that Myung had previously disclosed a transcript last November in which he claimed he prevented Representative Yoon from being appointed as the secretary of the presidential candidate Yoon Suk-yeol and from running for Gyeongnam governor during a conversation with an acquaintance around March 2, 2022.
The Democratic Party asserted, "The recordings made public last November and this time were made around similar dates of March 2 and 8," and argued that "these two recordings coincide in content regarding Myung blocking Representative Yoon's progress and Kim's involvement in related appointments."
In this regard, Representative Yoon stated in a press release, "It is completely untrue," adding that "he has never had a call or conversation with Kim during that time." He noted, "Given the circumstances at the time and my character, there is no content that corresponds to any fact," and said, "The claim that I discussed running for governor or nominations with Kim is just Myung Tae-kyun's nonsense to brag about nominations to his acquaintances."
