Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon said in his book published on the 26th, "The choice of Han Dong-hoon - It's the people first," to supporters opposing President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment, "I sincerely apologize for the pain caused by the impeachment."
In the latter part of the book, Han noted that in response to the question, "Once the impeachment process began, there were also many citizens opposing the impeachment," he said, "I deeply understand their feelings." The latter part of the book consists of a dialogue format with journalists.
He said, "I also pondered a lot and it was painful and regrettable," adding, "Because I empathize with that feeling, I did not engage in any external activities for over two months after resigning from the party leadership on 16th December."
He added, "If I had been the party leader, I would not have stood by and let the Democratic Party's abuses go unchecked." He continued, "I took a stern stance on the president's mistakes, so I could have responded even more strongly to the Democratic Party's abuses."
He emphasized, "While the president's state of emergency is a problem, Representative Lee Jae-myung's ongoing state of emergency is a bigger issue."
Additionally, Han mentioned the fact that there was a clash with the members during the People Power Party's general meeting held immediately after the impeachment motion against President Yoon was passed.
Han said, "In hindsight, I wonder if I should have been more gentle or if I should have just listened without saying anything, as everyone present must have been confused and anxious; as a party leader, I should have just listened even if it meant enduring harsh comments."
At that time, the pro-Yoon faction lawmakers held Han politically responsible and demanded his resignation, while Han reportedly said, "Did I vote for impeachment? Did I impose the state of emergency?"
