The Democratic Party held a national rally on the 22nd near the Constitutional Court in Jongno, Seoul, demanding the removal of President Yoon Suk-yeol for 'ending the rebellion and preserving constitutional order.' This marked the party's first outdoor rally since the declaration of martial law.
Floor leader Park Chan-dae said at the rally, "The rebel leader Yoon Suk-yeol must be removed. If Yoon returns, South Korea will be doomed that very day," adding, "We cannot live in a lawless hell on Earth filled with terror and riots."
Supreme council member Jeon Hyun-hee stated, "It is certain that the rebel leader Yoon Suk-yeol will be removed unanimously '8 to 0.'" Another supreme council member, Kim Byeong-joo, noted, "If martial law had succeeded, we would have been dragged into the B1 bunker and then sunk into the West Sea, becoming fish feed."
The Democratic Party's outdoor rally is the first since the declaration of martial law. President Yoon Suk-yeol is set to face the final arguments in his impeachment trial on the 25th, which is seen as an attempt to sway public opinion. The Democratic Party held weekly rallies titled 'Condemnation of Kim Keon-hee and Yoon Suk-yeol's state affairs manipulation and calling for a special investigation' just before the martial law situation last November.
The Democratic Party stated that about 35,000 people attended the rally, including over 80 affiliated lawmakers and the leadership. Representative Lee Jae-myung did not attend the rally but encouraged supporters to participate through social media.
Following the rally, the Democratic Party joined the street march of 'Immediate resignation of Yoon Suk-yeol and emergency action for social reform,' primarily led by civic groups.
