The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced on the 14th that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Seoul National University for cooperation in the development of future submarine technology.

This agreement was made to strengthen academic and technological exchanges. DAPA and Seoul National University had previously signed a memorandum of understanding in October 2024 for cooperation in the area of defense engineering policy, aiming to specialize further in submarines.

The agreement includes strengthening the following areas: ▲ sharing domestic submarine technical data and information ▲ academic consulting and research cooperation for discovering submarine-related technologies ▲ activation of submarine conferences and lectures ▲ enhancing cooperation for submarine capability development.

Seoul National University operates the Marine Systems Engineering Research Institute and contributes to strengthening technology in the submarine field through courses such as submarine design.

Lee Sang-woo, head of DAPA's Korean Submarine Project Division, said, “Not only will we enhance submarine performance based on advanced technology, but we will also strengthen future submarine export competitiveness.”
