Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae is facing calls from the People Power Party to resign over allegations that obscene materials were shared in an alumni cafe he joined.
Spokesperson Park Min-young criticized, saying, "It has been revealed that over 2,000 obscene materials were illegally posted and circulated in the alumni cafe of the high school from which Justice Moon graduated, and it has come to light that Justice Moon ignored this despite being aware of it."
He further claimed, "Allegations are spreading that Justice Moon left his seat to delete the post during President Yoon Seok-youl's impeachment trial arguments."
Police are investigating allegations that numerous obscene materials were posted in the online alumni cafe of the high school to which Acting Chief Justice Moon belongs. The Mapo Police Station in Seoul announced that it plans to transfer the investigation regarding the allegations to the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
Park said, "If he was unaware of the issue, it is a serious disqualification as a judge, and if he knew and condoned it, he is an accomplice of violating the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse Act and the illegal distribution of obscene materials," and urged him to immediately step down and apologize to the public.
Representative Na Kyung-won also wrote on Facebook that day, "It is shocking and devastating that he is still holding the position of chief justice of the Constitutional Court and continues to act as a judge while tolerating the posting and distribution of numerous obscene materials in the alumni cafe." She emphasized, "If the media reports and allegations are true, he should be subject to investigation and punishment."
Na urged, "Acting Justice Moon should take responsibility for undermining the fairness and morality of constitutional adjudication with this incident of obscene materials amid the ongoing hasty and biased operation of the impeachment trial and step down immediately."
Fellow party member Bae Hyun-jin also stated on Facebook the previous day, "We cannot entrust the impeachment trial of the sitting president, which will remain a significant history in our constitutional history, to a perverted dual personality who cannot discern such a level of illegality and social shock, can we?"
