The Board of Audit and Inspection stated on the 13th that it will conduct safety inspections at all 15 airports nationwide in the second quarter of this year (April to June).
Park Hwan-dae, head of the Audit Strategy Division at the Board of Audit and Inspection, noted on the same day while presenting the '2025 annual audit plan,' "This year, we set 20 high-risk priority areas and planned audit operations related to them," adding, "All 15 airports nationwide are Daesang for the aviation safety management audit."
This safety inspection by the Board of Audit and Inspection aims to comprehensively check areas of aviation safety vulnerabilities following the tragic incident involving a Jeju Air passenger plane at Muan International Airport on Dec. 29 last year, which resulted in the deaths of 179 passengers. The safety inspection targets include the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and Korea Airport Service.
The Board of Audit and Inspection plans to examine the actual conditions of the selection, support, and protection of national team athletes and coaches, the presence of irregularities in the budget execution process, and management and supervision issues within the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism during this year's audit. The Board began collecting data after initiating a special audit of the Sports Council at the end of November last year.
In addition, the Board of Audit and Inspection is looking into the causes of the surge in government debt this year, agricultural policy funds and regional university financial support projects, illegal activities at social overhead capital construction sites, financial consumer protection and public computer network security management, local extinction due to population structure changes, and damage from weather anomalies due to rapid climate change.
Hwang Hae-sik, Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination at the Board of Audit and Inspection, said, "Since last year, we have strengthened regular institutional audits, and especially in a situation where the public service is chaotic, it is important for public officials to perform their original duties well, which is why we have reinforced regular institutional audits as a monitoring tool."
