The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) held the 58th Central Integrated Defense Meeting on the afternoon of the 10th at the Seoul Government Complex, discussing countermeasures against North Korea's missile, drone, and cyber threats.
According to the JCS, which operates the Integrated Defense Headquarters, about 150 key officials, including Acting President Choi Sang-mok, Minister of Strategy and Finance, and members of the Cabinet as well as local government officials, attended the meeting. The Central Integrated Defense Meeting is an annual gathering of key officials to evaluate and discuss ways to enhance the country's defense posture.
The meeting discussed measures to protect the public from daily life disruptions and safeguard national security in light of North Korea's advanced nuclear and missile technologies, the increase of drone and cyber threats, and disruption of the Global Positioning System (GPS). It also mentioned rapid warning dissemination and integrated protection for critical facilities as countermeasures against North Korean drone threats, along with plans to establish regional drone systems. Regarding cyber threats, urgent recovery plans for systems and measures to protect computer networks were discussed.
Acting President Choi noted, "In this severe security environment, everyone here must establish a total security posture as 'one team' to protect the daily lives and safety of the public from North Korea's various provocations." JCS Chairman Kim Myung-soo stated, "This has become an opportunity to prepare measures to respond to the various threats we face from North Korea," and added, "We will push forward with the discussed opinions in a substantial manner."
Meanwhile, Ulsan City, the Army's 32nd Division, the Navy's Third Fleet Command, the Gangwon Police Agency, and the Shinansung Substation of the Korea Electric Power Corporation, which achieved excellent results in establishing an integrated defense posture last year, received commendations from the Acting President.
