Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, asserted on the 10th that introducing a 'four-day workweek' is necessary to advance toward a society of advanced technology.
During the representative speech of negotiation groups at the National Assembly plenary session that day, Lee noted, "Long hours of coerced labor are incompatible with an era of advanced science and technology, where creativity and autonomy are key."
Lee stated, "The era of advanced technology symbolized by artificial intelligence (AI) will fundamentally overturn traditional labor concepts and welfare systems," adding, "While productivity increases due to AI and new technologies, a reduction in the role and share of labor is inevitable." He emphasized that "the productivity improvement driven by AI and advanced technology must lead to 'reduced working hours.'"
