The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 3rd that two researchers plan to take the flight data recorder (FDR) recovered from the Jeju Air passenger plane involved in the accident at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla to the United States next week for analysis.
According to the situation report from the accident investigation committee that morning, the FDR is currently unable to extract data domestically. The connector linking the data storage device with the power supply was missing when recovered. Although an option to repair it domestically was considered, concerns about potential data damage arose, leading the investigation committee to decide to conduct data analysis in the United States with the assistance of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The investigation committee explained it plans to draft a preliminary investigation report based on the examination, analysis, and test results of the relevant materials while continuously gathering information and materials necessary for future investigations.
An official from the investigation committee noted that since it is a major aviation accident with many casualties, it is being treated as the top priority for investigation and is being conducted swiftly, adding that the results of the future investigation will be transparently shared through public hearings and other means.
