The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 2nd that it completed the conversion of voice recorder (CVR) data into audio files from the black box device of the Jeju Air passenger plane involved in an accident at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province.

Joo Jong-wan, the Deputy Minister of Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, noted at a briefing on the Muan Airport accident held in the ministry's press room at the Sejong government complex at 2 p.m. that day, that “the accident investigation committee completed the conversion of data extracted from the CVR into audio file format this morning,” adding that it is “scheduled to be used for the investigation.”

Regarding the flight data recorder (FDR) that was recovered in a damaged state, it was stated that “as soon as the schedule for transport with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is agreed upon, a researcher from the investigation committee will be dispatched to begin data analysis.”

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also began on-site inspections to confirm how the localizer facilities, identified as amplifying the accident damage, are installed at airports nationwide. Deputy Minister Joo stated, “We started the on-site inspection of air navigation safety facilities at airports nationwide today,” and clarified that the inspection “is scheduled to continue until Jan. 8.”
