They discussed countermeasures to address external economic uncertainties. The participants resolved to provide full support to ensure that domestic and international uncertainties do not affect the export and investment of our corporations.
At the meeting, Vice Minister Choi emphasized, “There are concerns about our economy due to the passage of the presidential impeachment motion, but the Korean economy has the capability and capacity to navigate uncertainties.” Choi stressed, “Through the meeting with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministers, we will always respond to potential changes in the external trade environment with responsibility and without wavering.”
To this end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, each economic ministry, and Korean diplomatic missions in the United States plan to establish a close cooperative system to conduct outreach to the U.S., while also maintaining close communication with the private sector. The meeting of the external relations ministers held on this day will also be regularized to check on economic cooperation, trade issues, and supply chain stability.
A government official said, "We will respond promptly under the close linkage and cooperation of related ministries to ensure that rapidly changing internal and external conditions do not negatively affect external credibility and our economy." The official noted, "The government and the industry will actively communicate to devise effective and practical countermeasures, and continue efforts to enhance the international competitiveness of our corporations."
