Han Deok-su, acting president and prime minister, said on the 14th, "The government will do its best to overcome the difficulties and minimize the impact on your daily lives."
Han, acting president, said in a national address at 8:30 p.m. that day, "As prime minister, I fully feel the heavy responsibility for the current situation facing our people and the entire process that led to it. I sincerely apologize to all of you," referring to the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol by the National Assembly.
Han said, "What is most important now is that there should be no gap in the administration even for a moment," and added, "We will establish a solid security posture and manage external trust stably."
He continued, "We will strengthen the emergency economic response system to ensure that the financial and foreign exchange markets operate smoothly," and said, "We will establish public order, prepare tailored support measures for vulnerable groups, and thoroughly prepare for various disasters."
Han said, "People of the Republic of Korea, we have faced many crises, including the 1997 foreign exchange crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, but each time we have risen stronger," and added, "Our people have overcome the difficulties ahead of us with united strength and wisdom."
He continued, "Thanks to the dedication of many citizens, democracy operates firmly in accordance with the Constitution, and the fundamentals of the economy remain solid," adding, "I believe that with the mature democratic consciousness of the people who are the rightful owners of the country and the responsible response of the government, we can certainly overcome the current situation."
He added, "We will do our utmost to ensure stable administration in accordance with the Constitution and laws so that the safety of the state and the daily lives of the people are not shaken," and said, "I believe this is the final duty and the most crucial mission of my long public service career. I will give my all."
