The mourning altar for former manager Baek In-cheon, the "immortal .400 hitter," has been set up at the funeral hall of Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan.
Baek died on the morning of the 15th while receiving treatment for a cerebral hemorrhage in the intensive care unit at Dankook University Hospital.
Transported the previous day in cardiac arrest and remaining in critical condition, Baek was a towering figure in baseball who played for 23 years in professional leagues in Korea and Japan.
In particular, in 1982, as player-manager of the MBC Blue Dragons, he recorded a .412 batting average and left his name as the only .400 hitter in KBO League history.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said it would solemnly conduct the funeral as the second-ever "KBO funeral" to honor the deceased's contributions to the development of professional baseball. Aug. 16, 2026
