"The immortal .400 hitter" former manager Baek Incheon's mourning altar has been set up at the funeral hall of Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan.
Baek died on the morning of the 15th while receiving treatment for a cerebral hemorrhage in the intensive care unit at Dankook University Hospital.
Transported the previous day in cardiac arrest and remaining in critical condition, Baek was a giant in baseball who played 23 years as a player in the Korean and Japanese professional leagues.
In particular, in 1982, as player-manager of the MBC Blue Dragons, he posted a .412 batting average, leaving his name as the only .400 hitter in KBO League history.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said it will solemnly hold the funeral as the second-ever "KBO funeral" to honor the deceased's contributions to professional baseball.
Heo Koo-youn, KBO commissioner, offers condolences to the bereaved family at the mourning altar. Aug. 16, 2026
