The memorial altar for former manager Baek In-chun, the "immortal .400 hitter," has been set up at the funeral hall of Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan.
Baek died on the morning of the 15th while receiving treatment for a cerebral hemorrhage in the intensive care unit at Dankook University Hospital.
A day earlier, Baek had been transported in cardiac arrest and had remained in critical condition; he is a towering figure in baseball who played 23 years in the professional leagues in Korea and Japan.
In particular, in 1982, as a player-manager of the MBC Blue Dragons, he hit .412, making him the only .400 hitter in KBO League history.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said it would solemnly hold the funeral as the second-ever "KBO funeral" to honor the deceased's contributions to professional baseball.
Heo Koo-youn, KBO commissioner, offers condolences to the bereaved family at the memorial altar. Aug. 16, 2026
