The mourning altar for former manager Baek In-cheon, the "immortal .400 hitter," has been set up at the funeral hall of Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan.
Baek died on the morning of the 15th while being treated for a cerebral hemorrhage in the intensive care unit at Dankook University Hospital.
Taken to the hospital the previous day in cardiac arrest and remaining in critical condition, Baek was a towering figure in baseball who played for 23 years in professional leagues in Korea and Japan.
In particular, in 1982, as player-manager of the MBC Blue Dragons, he recorded a .412 batting average, leaving his name as the only .400 hitter in KBO League history.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said it will solemnly hold the funeral as the second-ever "KBO funeral," honoring the deceased's contributions to the development of professional baseball. Aug. 16, 2026
