The memorial altar for former manager Baek In-cheon, the "immortal .400 hitter," has been set up at the funeral hall of Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan.
Baek died on the morning of the 15th while being treated for a cerebral hemorrhage in the intensive care unit at Dankook University Hospital.
A day earlier, he had been transported in cardiac arrest and remained in critical condition. Baek, who played for 23 years in professional baseball in Korea and Japan, was a towering figure in the sport.
In particular, in 1982, as manager-player of the MBC Blue Dragons, he recorded a .412 batting average, leaving his name as the only .400 hitter in KBO League history.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said it will solemnly conduct the funeral as the second "KBO funeral" on record to honor the deceased's contributions to professional baseball. Aug. 16, 2026
