The memorial altar for former manager Baek In-cheon, the "immortal .400 hitter," has been set up at the funeral hall of Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan.
Baek died on the morning of the 15th in the intensive care unit at Dankook University Hospital while being treated for a cerebral hemorrhage.
Baek, who had been transported the previous day in cardiac arrest and remained in critical condition, was a towering figure in baseball who played for 23 years in professional leagues in Korea and Japan.
In particular, in 1982, as player-manager of the MBC Blue Dragons, he recorded a .412 batting average, leaving his name as the only .400 hitter in KBO League history.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said it would solemnly conduct the funeral as the second-ever "KBO funeral" to honor the deceased's contributions to the development of professional baseball.
Heo Koo-youn, KBO president, comforts the bereaved family at the memorial altar. Aug. 16, 2026
