The mourning altar for former manager Baek In-cheon, the "immortal .400 hitter," has been set up at the funeral hall of Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan.
Baek died on the morning of the 15th while receiving treatment for a cerebral hemorrhage in the intensive care unit at Dankook University Hospital.
Transported the previous day in cardiac arrest and remaining in critical condition, Baek was a towering figure in baseball who played for 23 years in the professional leagues of Korea and Japan.
In particular, in 1982, as player-manager of the MBC Chungyong, he recorded a .412 batting average, leaving his name as the only .400 hitter in KBO League history.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said it would solemnly hold the funeral as the second-ever "KBO funeral" to honor the deceased's contributions to the development of professional baseball.
A condolence wreath from KBO commissioner Heo Koo-youn is placed at the mourning altar. Aug. 16, 2026
