A miracle in Tokyo. The Korea WBC national team advanced past the first round for the first time in 17 years.

Korea won against Australia in a Group C first-round game of the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) at Tokyo Dome in Japan on Mar. 9. With the result, Korea finished the group round at 2-2 and, by the fewest runs allowed, edged Australia and Taiwan to advance past the first round for the first time since 2009, ending a 17-year wait. Now Korea will board a charter to Miami.

With two outs and a runner on first in the bottom of the ninth, Korea's Moon Bo-gyeong handled Australia's Wade on a flyout and celebrated. Mar. 9, 2026
