Japan's first step toward a second straight World Baseball Classic (WBC) title was destructive. It pressed Taiwan into a fifth-inning mercy rule and claimed a perfect win.

On Mar. 6 at Tokyo Dome, Japan opened the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) Round 1 Group C with a 13-0, seventh-inning mercy-rule victory over Taiwan for a flawless start. Japan earned its first win of the tournament, while Taiwan was pushed to the brink of elimination with two losses.
