Gen.G, which took the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) crown for a second straight year, set its next goal as winning the World Championship (Worlds), known as the "LoL World Championship."
Gen.G defeated Hanwha Life Insurance e-Sports 3-1 in the 2026 LCK final held at KSPO Dome in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the 13th. After dropping the first set, it took three straight to complete the comeback.
With this win, Gen.G achieved back-to-back LCK titles following last year. The team's total championships rose to seven.
Coach Yu Sang-uk of Gen.G said in a press briefing after the match, "The first game's ban-pick was regrettable, but I feel good about winning 3-1," adding, "I think the team has become more solid after going through many processes this season."
He added that "this experience will have a positive impact at Worlds," signaling an intention to go for this year's Worlds title.
Captain "Ruler" Park Jae-hyeok was named most valuable player (MVP) of the final. Ruler said, "It feels even better because, in the process of winning, we confirmed that we can do well."
Looking back on the early-season struggles, Ruler explained, "Inside, I worried a lot that my pro career might be over," adding, "Still, I didn't give up and tried to work harder than others."
He added, "As I kept at it, I felt my form returning, and today I ended up winning and taking the finals MVP," noting, "There are always times when a person underperforms, but I want to say the day will come when they see the light."
They also expressed confidence about facing China's LPL powerhouse Bilibili Gaming (BLG), a possible opponent at next month's Worlds.
Regarding BLG's AD carry "Viper" Park Do-hyeon, Ruler said, "I've played him a lot, so I know well what his style is," adding, "Even if we meet at Worlds, if we just play as usual, we can show strong form, and I think we can do even better."
"Kiin" Kim Ki-in showed steady play against Hanwha Life Insurance's "Zeus" Choi Woo-je on the day. Kiin said, "I've faced Zeus so many times that, rather than feeling pressure, I mostly wanted to play a fun match."
Gen.G jungler "Canyon" Kim Geon-bu will also compete this year as a national team member in esports at the Asian Games. Canyon emphasized, "I'm happy to have won with the Asian Games just around the corner," adding, "I'm good at managing my condition, so there's no problem."
With this championship, Gen.G will enter next month's Worlds in the United States as the LCK's No. 1 seed.
