LG Display will accelerate its companywide AI transformation (AX) by putting forward the "AX squad (SQUAD)," a program in which employees directly use artificial intelligence (AI) to identify and solve tasks to improve their work.
The "AX squad" is an execution-focused, companywide project in which frontline staff in each business unit turn problems they face in real work or repetitive tasks into AI projects and develop solutions through AI tools. To help all employees—including office, development, and production staff—use AI to solve tasks, AI experts within the AX group, who have specialized expertise, participate as coaches.
LG Display's "AX squad" centers on collaboration between frontline staff, who best understand on-the-ground issues, and experts who are familiar with AI tools. Through coaching from AI experts in the AX group, frontline staff produce outcomes with high usability and feasibility.
As frontline staff use AI to directly implement improvement plans through the "AX squad," AI utilization capabilities will become embedded on site, and successful cases are expected to lead to broader AX adoption across the organization.
Tangible results are also emerging. With every organization at LG Display taking part in the AX squad, the cumulative number of tasks has reached about 450. The company has automated about 190 AX tasks, including a defect classification simplification program in manufacturing, an optical simulation tool in development, and a member survey system in HR.
Applications developed by employees through the AX squad are shared on "HI-D Agent Hub," LG Display's in-house app marketplace, allowing any employee to easily download them. "HI-D Agent Hub" is also a platform developed directly by employees.
Since last year, LG Display has offered AX training courses for all employees, including vibe coding. At the same time, because it must use internal data for which security is critical and cannot use external vibe coding tools, the company built the in-house vibe coding agent "HI-D Code (CODE)" and has been steadily preparing for the AX transition.
Since last year, LG Display has formally declared an AX transition and is prioritizing AX adoption in its manufacturing and development organizations, the backbone of a technology-centered company. Starting in the second half of this year, it has been actively expanding the AX transition to non-manufacturing and development areas, including procurement and supply chain, customer support, finance and management, and sales and marketing.
An LG Display official said, "The AX squad is a companywide AI innovation framework in which employees, who had remained in a simple AI user role, directly participate from task formulation to execution," adding, "We will speed our transition to a technology-centered company through work innovation involving all employees and the embedding of AI."
