Personal information of members was leaked in a hack at MuPot, a platform where users can use background music and video sources without copyright concerns.
According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 11th, MuPot sent a personal information leak notice to members on the 9th, saying, "At the end of August, we confirmed that due to abnormal external access to our system, some customers' personal information was viewed or taken out."
The leaked information includes names, email addresses, and mobile phone numbers. However, because the company holds different information for each user, the actual leaked items may vary. The exact scale of the personal information leak has not yet been confirmed. According to the MuPot website, the cumulative number of members is 959,000.
MuPot said it blocked external access routes immediately after detecting abnormal signs in its system on the 1st and reported the case to related agencies, including the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). It is currently investigating the exact cause of the incident and the scope of the personal information leak with technical support from KISA.
So far, there is no indication that the leaked personal information has been misused or that damage has occurred as a result. MuPot said it will notify users again if additional leaked information is identified.
MuPot urged users to be cautious of text messages, emails, phone calls, and internet addresses (URLs) of unclear origin to prevent secondary damage such as voice phishing and smishing.
