KT and Asan Medical Center will work to build an "AI hospital" that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to improve diagnostic accuracy and operational efficiency.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding for digital transformation (AX) in healthcare on the 10th at KT Gwanghwamun Building West in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The ceremony was attended by Kim Bong-gyun, head of KT's Enterprise Division, and Park Seung-il, president of Asan Medical Center.
The collaboration focuses on developing and validating AI medical services that can be used in clinical settings, in step with the government's "AI basic healthcare strategy." Major tasks under discussion include technology that assists with interpreting patients' medical images and automatically compiles and analyzes health records dispersed across multiple systems. The plan is to increase clinicians' diagnostic speed and accuracy and reduce patient wait times.
KT will handle service design and technology validation by leveraging AI, cloud, and data infrastructure. Asan Medical Center will identify needs in clinical and research settings and evaluate the clinical effectiveness and safety of the developed services. The two will also jointly identify healthcare AX models, including the next-generation hospital information system, and apply them to hospital settings in phases.
The two institutions will launch a working-level council at the end of this month to set specific project tasks and explore ways to expand validated AI services across clinical settings. President Park Seung-il said, "We will pursue healthcare innovation that enhances patient safety and treatment outcomes."
