Some employees in the Samsung Electronics semiconductor (DS) institutional sector were found to have improperly taken subsidies by abusing the company's housing cost support program, prompting the company to launch a fact-finding investigation.
According to the industry on the 8th, Samsung Electronics is verifying allegations of improper receipt involving some employees in connection with the monthly rent support program that has been in place since 2022 for workers at the Pyeongtaek plant. The benefit provides up to 700,000 won per month to employees living in officetels or studio apartments smaller than 33㎡ (10 pyeong).
However, claims have been raised, mainly on anonymous employee communities, that there are many cases where people lived in dwellings exceeding the support criteria and received subsidies by falsely entering the floor area or housing type on the lease contract.
Samsung Electronics is currently working to verify the facts related to the allegations, and those surveyed are said to number more than 100 employees.
