The global NAND flash market in the second quarter grew 70% from the previous quarter. As NAND prices rose sharply for two straight quarters, market revenue expanded, with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix maintaining the No. 1 and No. 2 market shares, respectively.
According to market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 4th, global NAND market revenue in the second quarter increased 70% quarter over quarter. During the same period, NAND prices rose 55%. In the first quarter as well, NAND prices climbed 90% from the previous quarter, extending a steep two-quarter rally.
By company, Samsung Electronics kept the top spot with a 28% revenue share. Compared with 29% in the previous quarter, the share fell by 1 percentage point (P).
SK hynix followed with 19%. The combined share of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix was 47%, with the two companies accounting for nearly half of global NAND market revenue.
Micron focused on selling higher-priced products and raised its share by 2 percentage points from 13% to 15% quarter over quarter. As a result, it rose to No. 3 in the NAND market in the second quarter.
Kioxia and China's YMTC followed with 14% each. The two companies' shares remained at the same level as the previous quarter. SanDisk recorded 11%, down 2 percentage points from the previous quarter.
The sharp revenue growth in the NAND market in the second quarter was largely driven by price increases. NAND prices rose 90% in the first quarter and 55% in the second quarter, maintaining an upward trend. While Samsung Electronics and SK hynix held the lead, Micron's expanded sales of high value-added products and resulting share gains also stand out.
