KT Cloud is teaming up with LS Electric to strengthen its capabilities in building modular AI data centers and its power equipment supply chain.
KT Cloud said on the 2nd that it signed a "business agreement to build a strategic partnership for AI data centers" with LS Electric at the LS Yongsan Tower in Seoul. Attendees at the signing included KT Cloud CEO Kim Bong-gyun, DC Division Head Choi Ok-jin, and LS Electric CEO Chae Dae-seok.
Under the agreement, LS Electric will participate from the initial design stage of the modular data centers promoted by KT Cloud. The two companies will jointly study power solutions that account for each data center's power consumption and site conditions, and will review the technologies and equipment configurations to be applied on site.
A modular data center is built by pre-manufacturing power and cooling equipment at a factory and then assembling it on site. Compared with conventional methods, it can shorten construction time and makes it easier to expand facilities in stages according to demand.
The two companies will also establish a power equipment supply system linked to KT Cloud's design-build-operate (DBO) business for data centers. They plan to procure key equipment stably in line with data center construction schedules to reduce the risk of delays.
KT Cloud plans to expand collaboration with specialized companies in power and cooling while securing a total of 1GW of data center infrastructure across the Seoul metropolitan area and non-metropolitan regions.
CEO Kim Bong-gyun said, "Through our collaboration with LS Electric, we will strengthen the foundation to build large-scale AI data centers in a timely manner and operate them stably."
