Artificial intelligence (AI) avatar startup GoodGang Labs said on the 3rd that it unveiled two AI experience contents at the National Taekwondo Museum's special exhibition "Taekwon Lady," together with AI motion-capture startup Moobin.

For this exhibition, Moobin led the project to develop a real-time motion-capture game, and GoodGang Labs created the game characters and an AI avatar docent. The content will run at the special exhibition hall on the third floor of the National Taekwondo Museum through Dec. 27. Both companies are startups invested in by Naver D2SF.

The "AI interactive taekwondo game" is an experiential content that recognizes visitors' movements in real time and reflects them in an avatar. When you punch or kick in front of the screen, the avatar defeats monsters with the same moves, and a taekwondo belt level is assigned based on the result of the experience.

It combines Moobin's markerless motion-capture solution "Moobin Tracing" with GoodGang Labs' game character technology. You can start the experience simply by standing in front of the screen without separate markers or a dedicated suit, and the system automatically resets when use ends.

The "AI Taekwon Lady" docent can be used in a web browser without installing a separate app by scanning a QR code in the exhibition hall. It recognizes voice questions in Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese, and a 3D avatar provides expressions, lip sync, and gestures to guide visitors through the exhibition content and how to experience it.

By applying an on-device method that generates the avatar's movements directly on visitors' smartphones, the load on graphics processing unit (GPU) servers was reduced. The company said it is easy to expand to other exhibition spaces or institutions because it can be implemented simply by adding a QR code to existing guides.

Moobin CEO Choi Byeol-i said, "Because people can participate right away without markers or suits, we hope more visitors will move their bodies and experience taekwondo firsthand." GoodGang Labs CEO An Doo-kyung said, "Visitors can ask about the exhibition and get guidance in their own language without a separate app," adding, "We will expand the application of AI avatars in exhibitions and tourism."
