The Korea Institute of Intellectual Property Promotion (KIPRO) said on the 1st that former chief presiding examiner of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, Lim Young-hee, 58, took office as president of the Korea Institute of Intellectual Property Promotion (KIPRO).
The institute held a board meeting that day and appointed Lim as the new president.
Lim, born in 1968 in Gwangju, graduated from Hanyang University with a degree in electrical engineering. Lim handled cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and served in positions across intellectual property administration and trials, including technical investigator at the Intellectual Property High Court, head of trial policy and chief presiding examiner at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and director general of the telecommunications examination bureau and the chemical and life sciences examination bureau at the Korean Intellectual Property Office (now the Ministry of Intellectual Property).
Lim said the organization will strengthen its role as a specialized technology security agency to protect core national technologies and will connect the intellectual property expertise the institute has accumulated to new growth businesses such as economic security, public services, and global cooperation, adding that through AI-based work innovation and by strengthening staff expertise, the institute will become a sustainable organization where the institution and its members grow together.
