Adobe said on the 31st that it unveiled new Photoshop features that enhance editing precision and control.
According to Adobe, this update adds "light adjustment layer," "edit by masking instructions," and "markup."
Light adjustment layer is a feature that lets users non-destructively tweak lighting controls such as exposure, contrast, highlight, shadows, whites, and blacks. It enables Camera Raw-level lighting correction while maintaining Photoshop's layer-based workflow.
The "edit by masking instructions" feature is based on Adobe's Generative AI model "Firefly Image 5" and edits by understanding the full image context from a prompt, without the user having to precisely designate every area to modify. Faces, logos, and brand assets that are not masked remain unchanged, it said.
The markup feature lets users draw arrows or shapes directly on the image to convey editing directions to AI. Users can mark areas where colors should change or specify exactly where to insert new elements, reducing ambiguity that can occur when using only text prompts.
Other features were added to improve convenience in existing editing tasks. With the "dynamic text, shapes, and paths" feature, text can be automatically placed along curves or freeform paths, and a stock panel was integrated to search and preview more than 900 million Adobe Stock assets within Photoshop.
Adobe is also offering a beta of a separate, prompt-centric editing environment called "AI Assisted Editor." The company said users can explore a range of ideas and easily edit images with simple prompts.
