Kakao Entertainment said on the 31st that it released the webtoon "Girls Band Cry ~Secret Live~," based on the hit Japanese animation "Girls Band Cry," on KakaoPage.
First aired in 2024, "Girls Band Cry" tells the story of girls who come to Tokyo with emotional scars and form the five-member band "Togenashi Togeari." Toei Animation, Japan's largest animation studio known for "Dragon Ball," "Slam Dunk," "One Piece," and "Sailor Moon," produced it, and it ranked No. 2 in average Blu-ray sales among TV animations (TVA) in 2024.
Riding the popularity of the original, the webtoon launched simultaneously not only in Korea but also in major overseas markets, including Japan. The webtoon will be co-produced by domestic content corporations A Tempo Media, which created hit webtoons such as "Pick Me Up!" and "The Symbiotic Relationship Between the Rabbit and the Black Panther," in collaboration with Toei Animation in a Korea-Japan joint project.
Kakao Entertainment has steadily introduced hit Japanese manga originals and globally successful intellectual property (IP), including "One Piece," "Naruto," and "Bleach," through KakaoPage. In addition to flagship Japanese shonen manga, readers can access digital editions of a wide range of Japanese titles such as "Attack on Titan," "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba," "Chainsaw Man," "My Hero Academia," "Sakamoto Days," "Mr. Sushi King," "Oshi no Ko," "Kimi ni Todoke," "H2," and "Haikyu!!."
