On the 30th, Lee Hae-min, the newly appointed senior presidential secretary for AI future planning, said the administration will focus on consolidation of artificial intelligence (AI) with improvements in national competitiveness and changes people can feel.
After the personnel announcement that day, the senior secretary issued a statement saying, "Through AI, national power is now moving from declaration to execution," and added, "For the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the success of the Republic of Korea, we will not stop moving forward."
Lee emphasized that work had been done in the National Assembly to push legislation related to AI and science and technology. The senior secretary said, "As a member of the 22nd National Assembly, I have worked on parliamentary affairs for the development of AI and science and technology and for the safety of each citizen, passing bills such as the AI Basic Act and the AI Data Center Act," and added, "With the single-minded goal of enabling all citizens to enjoy the fruits of AI and science and technology, I entered politics."
Lee added, "I believe we must raise Korea's national power by one tier through AI," and said, "For the Lee Jae-myung administration's national AI strategy, we will serve as the control tower that drives industrial innovation and changes in services that people can feel."
Lee is an IT expert who began as a researcher at the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS), then worked as a product manager at Google Korea and a senior project manager at Google headquarters, and later served as chief product officer (CPO) at the data analysis and research corporations OpenSurvey.
Brought into the Rebuilding Korea Party in 2024 and entering politics, Lee went on to serve as the party's secretary-general and then as Chairperson of the Rebuilding Korea Party AI Special Committee.
