SK Telecom said on the 27th that it formed a consortium with Upstage, the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA), and universities and submitted an application to join the Ministry of Science and ICT's "AI foundation model specialized for cybersecurity" development project.
SK Telecom and Upstage recently passed the second-stage evaluation of the Ministry of Science and ICT-led independent AI foundation model project. Of the three teams that passed the second stage, two joined one consortium.
SK Telecom is the lead company in the consortium and, together with Upstage, will handle model development. ▲SK shieldus ▲SECUI ▲AhnLab ▲Igloo Corporation ▲Raonsecure ▲Smart M2M ▲AIM Intelligence ▲Genians ▲Piolink—nine major domestic security corporations—are also joining the consortium.
SK Telecom and Upstage plan to develop a security-specialized model based on the "A.X K" family developed as part of the independent AI foundation model project and the "Solar Open" family, respectively. The nine security corporations will feed data accumulated in real security operations into training and verify the model in their commercial products and monitoring environments.
In academia, the industry-academic cooperation groups at Korea University and Soongsil University will independently verify the model's performance and safety, separate from the developers. KISIA will work to spread the development results across industry and link them to training for employees.
Cho Dong-yeon, head of AI Convergence at SK Telecom, said, "We will build a practical security AI system by embedding the data and know-how from Korea's security field into a homegrown AI model," and added, "We will broaden the security AI ecosystem so that, with capabilities built jointly by domestic industry, academia, and research, we can compete in global markets."
