Apple's iPhone 17 was found to be the world's best-selling smartphone in the second quarter this year.
According to global market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 27th, in the second-quarter global smartphone sales ranking this year, the iPhone 17 accounted for 6% of total sales to take first place. The iPhone 17 Pro Max ranked second and the iPhone 17 Pro third, with Apple sweeping the top three.
The base iPhone 17 narrowed the performance gap with the Pro models and was found to have kept its spot as the quarter's top-selling model. Trade-in programs, promotions, and installment options also boosted sales of the Pro and Pro Max. Rising smartphone prices nudged consumers into higher segments, which worked in Apple's favor.
No. 4 was Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S26 Ultra. No. 5 was the Galaxy A07 4G, and No. 6 was the Galaxy A17 5G.
No. 7 was the iPhone 17e, No. 8 the Galaxy A17 4G, No. 9 the Galaxy S26, and No. 10 the iPhone 16.
Apple and Samsung Electronics each placed five models in the top 10.
Karn Chauhan, a senior research analyst at Counterpoint Research, said, "Thanks to the iPhone 17 series, sales increased in India, Japan, and the Middle East and Africa region, and in particular, in Korea sales roughly doubled from a year earlier."
