Megazone Cloud said on the 27th that it held the finals of the "Quantum Reframing Challenge 2026" on the 26th at Samjung Hotel in Seoul with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI).
The grand prize went to the "Quanskkuad" team, composed of three students from Sungkyunkwan University's Department of Biomechatronics. The team proposed a method to predict the selectivity of a copper catalyst that converts carbon dioxide into ethylene using quantum computing. It was evaluated as having shown the potential to reduce unnecessary catalyst synthesis and repeated experiments by analyzing the limits of existing calculation methods.
The top excellence awards went to the "QAIST" team, which screened candidates for high-heat-resistant, lightweight materials, and the "Schrödinger's Dog" team, which corrected calculations for semiconductor precursors. Two teams that addressed concert hall noise control and port crane schedule optimization received excellence awards.
Megazone Cloud organized the competition to redefine problems in industrial sites into forms solvable with quantum computing and to find ways to apply it. By allowing the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, it also lowered the barrier to entry for non-majors. A total of 73 teams and 214 participants, including high school and college students, researchers, and industry workers, took part.
The 12 teams that passed the online preliminaries implemented and verified their proposals using real quantum computers from IonQ, Pasqal, and Quandela. Megazone Cloud plans to link outstanding projects to follow-up proof-of-concept (PoC) and demonstration projects, and to continue discovering quantum computing use cases in industry and specialized talent.
